Bastille Day

2026

As reported previously, we had a pleasant reminiscence by having a meal in the Monkey Puzzle on Bastille Day 2025 and had planned to repeat this in 2026, celebrating 20 years since I left Zurich.

The Monkey Puzzle was a short walk from work and the place to go if you got fed up of the ZM on-site Sappers Restaurant. It was also great to feed the kids during school holidays.

Having done a "dry run" in early July , I discovered that the pub was closed several days a week, including Tuesdays. It has now closed completely as a result of the general closure of Beefeater restaurants.

Instead, we had a drink at the Crab and Anchor, which is situated across the road from the old Southwood site.

The Crab was where many of us had a drink after work. It was also the preferred place to eat, as long as someone else was paying, although prices are now more-reasonable. It's much the same as when I worked at Zurich and just as enjoyable.
